American Buffalo

Buffalo obverse
Buffalo reverse

The gold Buffalo was created in 2006 to compete with other gold coins made of 24K gold. The 1 oz coin, bearing a $50 face value is 0.9999 pure gold, competes directly with the Maple for American dollars. The coin is soft, as Maples are and need to be handled carefully as they can easily mar.

The obverse design was inspired by the Buffalo Nickel. The buffalo on the reverse was the artists depiction of Black Diamond, a bison in NYC's Central Park Zoo in the 20th century.

The Gold Buffalo, exclusively minted at the West Point facility, was the U.S. Mint's first 24-karat gold coin.  Each coin contains 1 troy ounce of fine .9999 pure gold in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, with a 32.7 mm diameter (1.287 in) and a thickness of 2.95 mm (0.116 in) with reeded edges.

The coins have legal tender status and a $50 face value, which is fully guaranteed by the US Federal Government.

Buffalos are available in a variety of dates at a reasonable premium over spot. Check the Inventory or contact us for availability or any questions.
